I am lying down on my bed, typing this out. I have only just recently entered into my summer vacation, and after a year of school, all the hard questions have sort of come out of me. In the midst of the homework assignments, late nights, and club meetings to attend, I haven’t had time to really assess how I’m doing, the state of my being. This is an invitation for you to do the same.
In my Media Studies class, we studied the eras of media and how that has shaped the society we’re in. In the past, we had an oral culture move to print to radio and now to electronic. Now more than ever, we are a visual society.
In a matter of a day, you have so many questions. These questions can be simple. What will I have for breakfast? What time should I work out? When will the train arrive? Does my car have gas? And then there are questions that linger, that stay on our minds longer than we’d care to admit. Does he like me? Is this the right school for me? Should I buy a wedding ring? Is this true love? It’s an inescapable way of life - we have questions, and we long for answers.
This is one of the many ways in culture, it seems we are all seeking happy. As millennials, we are job hopping at high rates. Hookup culture is rampant because we can’t commit to the person that isn’t 100% perfect. We look to our culture of consumerism and ambition to find where our happiness lies. We accumulate and we expect that when our salary rises that our happiness will rise.
Hey y’all! Long time, no blog. It’s been quite a minute since I sat and talked with you all, and so I just wanted to write an update letting you all know how I’ve been. I am currently at home in New York City. The weather has been amazing here. I finished my freshman year classes on April 30th, and I finished my final exams on May 10th. However, I only got back home on last Friday, May 18th.
