fall morning and night routine

Hello, gentle reader! As we’ve slipped into fall, I’ve gotten the sense that things are temporary. The yellow leaves slowly fall to the ground, the darkness in the morning when the sky is gray and full of clouds, even the soft chill that eventually warms up. Fall makes its way into winter (which I don’t love) and I’m always reminded of how fall never lasts.

My internship will come to an end at the start of next month, so I figured I’d memorialize at least one of the days by sharing with you my morning and night routine.

My morning

Every morning I wake up at 7am. It’s early enough that it’s pretty quiet at home. The first thing I do after getting out of bed is pressing the button on my kettle. I brush my teeth and that’s when I really start to awaken. I return to my kettle, choose a tea for the morning, and prep my mug. I’ve been loving Republic of Tea’s Vanilla Almond, which reminds me of grad school.

As my tea steeps, I light a candle to bring some light and coziness to my morning. I love a slow, cozy morning! This morning, I read Psalm 42 and the last subsection of Matthew 21. It’s funny – John’s gospel is the one known for fruit but Matthew has a lot of mentions of fruit. The kingdom is given to those who obey and bear fruit. Which is so convicting when I fail to produce good fruit.

The perfect companion to Psalm 42 is Steffany Gretzinger’s As The Deer. It’s such a sweet song.

After my quiet time comes breakfast. I had scrambled eggs and sausage. I’ve continued reading The Mirror & the Light by Hilary Mantel, Wolf Hall Book 3. It’s so good. Gregory is such a side character but he’s hilarious. I’m always impressed when books are funny because that’s even harder than standup comedy, where you can see them and hear their voices.

My morning routine ends at 9:40 because my job starts at 9:45. The perks of remote works!

My night

After work, I got on IG. Annie took me out with this quote.

This convicted me so much that I finally worked on my LinkedIn that I’ve been putting off for months!

Then I caught up on Rings of Power. Yes, I know it’s controversial in the Lord of the Rings fandom, but I’m actually enjoying it. I definitely don’t love what they’ve done with Galadriel’s character. It’s so painful to watch her pride because it makes her blind to what’s going on around her. But I do love Elendil and Disa—people who have principles and stick steadfastly to them.

I took a shower and then got cozy to continue reading The Mirror & the Light. I try to get to bed by 10:30. 11 at the latest. A very simple routine in this season.

What are your routines and rituals?

Sincerely,

Gigi
