Hello, friends! If you have an upcoming trip to New York City this year, or if you’re curious about the places I’ve gotten to try, especially through grad school, keep on reading!
I split up this food and drink guide into boroughs because I thought location would be best. Depending on where you’re staying or what you’re planning on doing, according to your itinerary, this guide will be helpful in figuring out what you should try while you’re in town.
Brooklyn
Brooklyn is where I was born and raised. It’s still my home base now, but I definitely have more to try and taste.
Saraghina Caffe – Fort Greene/Greenpoint
Stumptown Coffee – Cobble Hill
- Golden drink
- It’s a chain but I would try it if you’re in town.
The Little Sweet Cafe – Downtown Brooklyn

- I’ve been here several times, and it’s a solid bagel place. Highly recommend the classic New York bacon, egg, and cheese bagel!
Manhattan
La Colombe

- Probably my fav coffee shop in the city because of the best Iced London fog I’ve tried. I’ve tried to recreate it and have failed.
The Smith Restaurant – East Village
Tompkins Square Bagel – East Village
Merriweather Coffee – West Village

- A great place for working remotely! You get a meal and a place to charge your laptop.
Joe’s Coffee
- I went to Joe’s way too often as a Columbia student. I loved the almond croissant and a vanilla matcha with oat milk.
Arts and Crafts Beer Parlor
- Love their blood orange cider
Thai Villa
- Pad thai – you can’t go wrong with Pad Thai!!!
- Had a piece of cake
- Famous pastry shop
- A great breakfast diner option
Gin Mill
- A great option for a night out in the city
- Great for a Saturday or Sunday morning brunch!
Black Seed Bagel in Chelsea Market
- I recommend Chelsea Market for trying out different foods
Belgian Bistro B Cafe East

- A great brunch place if you’re in the Upper East Side
Bronx
- Mon Amour Coffee and Wine – great almond croissant
- Artizen NYC coffee shop – delightful pumpkin chai
Signing off,
Gigi
