checking in on those 2025 resolutions!

Dear friends, if you are anything like me, summer is passing you by too quickly for words and much of what you have intended to do has fallen to the wayside. In an effort to address the goals of the year, I figured I would return to my resolutions and update you all on the progress (or lack of progress) I have made.

Perhaps you will be inspired to get moving towards those goals, or even make some new ones that fit with the life you are currently living.

I resolve to job hunt again.

I did indeed job hunt. In fact, I recently was offered a full time position at a nonprofit. At the moment, I have decided not to take the position because it’s more of a lateral move (as it is quite similar to the job I have now.) But I am glad to finally have received a full time job offer, three years after graduating undergrad. You never know how long it’ll take to get to where you want to be. My hope is that my current job will become full time but there is no real guarantee at the moment.

Any and all advice I’d love to hear! What has made you say yes to a job? What job surprised you the most – either good or bad?

I resolve to reread The Brothers Karamazov.

I was actually talking to a colleague about this book, and while I have been rereading books this year, I haven’t gotten to this one yet. Pretty soon, I’ll have a week off of work and it may be time to pick up this novel and dive deep.

I resolve to knit a sweater.

With the help of an abundance of TV, I managed to finish my first sweater in the first quarter of the year. I have since taken a knitting break, but recently picked up my needles to cast on something new. If you need a new hobby where you learn something new and persist through frustration, knitting is perfect! I don’t love the collar of my first sweater and have since learned to do a folded collar (which is not as easy as it looks), so yay me for keeping my resolution!

I resolve to become consistent on the blog again.

This one has taken some trial and error. I realize that what I need is a system for when I actually sit down to write posts as well as a time to do all the maintenance things for the blog. When I’m consistent on this corner of the internet, I feel the love from all you readers and I’m thankful ❤️

I resolve to be conscious of my spending habits.

I cringe at this one. While I’m good at not buying lunch for work, I’m a tad frivolous on spending on treats and that was very clear to me after my London trip. I’m still working on this. Part of the problem is I think more money will make me better at managing money. And that’s a lie. The solution to this problem isn’t found in the future, but found in the daily habits of my life.

I resolve to take my driver’s test.

This might be the one goal I haven’t progressed on AT ALL. Oops. While I have gotten behind the wheel very briefly, I haven’t actually done enough driving to feel confident again, and so this is one resolution to focus on for the rest of the year.

I resolve to make serious progress on my student loans.

I have paid off more of my smaller loans, but my largest one (yay for grad school) still has a slow decline ahead of me. I have set a calendar reminder to pay a portion of it off once a month, and that is probably when I should address my budget as well.

Silly resolution: Exploring the wonders of New York City.

I have planned to do some touristy things very soon and I’m excited! I have been to Ralph’s (and had an amazing chai!) and to a cool coffee shop in the Bronx.

Wild resolution: Traveling somewhere new at a low cost.

Honestly, I had no clue that this was going to happen but I’m so glad I got to go to London and explore solo. I would love to do more solo trips in the future!!!

Well, folks, that’s all from me!

Please share below your progress on your resolutions and I look forward to hearing from you soon!!!

Signing off,

Gigi

  1. You knit a sweater! I’m very impressed. Do you wear it?

Financials: one of my biggest “younger years” regrets is not becoming financially savvy. Investing in the time to learn will help you reap rewards into your later years, and will help you learn to be a good steward. I married a financial genius (but we were both late marry-ers, at 52 and 53), and am amazed at how he learned and how wisely he handled, and still handles, our resources.
