Last day of fall semester | columbia chronicles

I know I haven’t been the best at sharing my Columbia life, but I did want to share the last day of fall semester with you. Fall semester was hard, and was super super busy, but I’m glad it’s time to rest and relax (even while working on my Master’s project).

Friday December 15, 2023

I don’t have class until the afternoon on Fridays but I woke up early to meet my Master’s advisor. Unfortunately for him, I now associate his name with stress. (He’s a nice guy but man my Master’s project is just not something I want to spend months working on.) Our meeting was at 10am.

Thought I would have lunch with a friend at a nearby bagel place, but that didn’t happen. Instead, I wrote notes for my law exam.

At 12, I headed over to the nearby cathedral for midday prayer, an unexpected delight with my canceled plans. Walking to the cathedral is such a sweet walk. It looks so grand, and always feels like going to see an old friend.

I was super grateful to see some friends, Noah and Caleb, before we were all gone for winter break.

I had my last law class of the semester! Which was in fact my last class of the semester in general. There’s something about when everyone claps and it hits you that it’s all over.

After class, I had a quick call to a source for my Master’s project. Grabbed some lunch/early dinner at Hamilton Deli, and then headed over to the library and picked up Potiphar’s Wife. (I finished this read, and while I loved the worldbuilding, it was the most unexpected plot I’ve read in a long long time. Will try the author again, but wow, it was so chaotic.)

Almost found myself buying Howard’s End, but I walked away, using my self-control!

Columbia’s campus looks so cute when the sun begins to set, especially the lights on the trees.

After eating lunch, I grinded on the law exam in the student center and got an iced vanilla matcha from Joe’s Coffee. Though I think Joe’s is super expensive, this was the first time I had a drink from them I truly loved. The barista put oat milk in my drink (which was so kind!) and I cannot have matcha without it).

I continue grinding with my classmates around me chit-chatting away. A party across the hall ended and I got to enjoy some cheese, delicious salami, and some prosecco.

I loved this outfit. To stay warm in the winter, the keys are layers and fleece-lined leggings. Can’t believe it took me 23 years to figure this out. (Virginia spoiled me with warm weather.)

I went home and finally finished my law exam at 1 in the morning, which officially finished my fall semester of grad school!

Wishing you a delightful Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays!!!

Signing off,

Gigi
