I’m taking you through a Tuesday in my life during spring semester. This semester has been so hard. My reporting is competing with my Master’s Project. Not to mention my part time job (which is thankfully lightening up its load). Send prayers and good thoughts!

On Tuesday morning, I ate breakfast and headed out the door for my 9:30 am class. I took my usual commute, continuing to read Wolf Hall. It weirdly relates to my class. Wolf Hall is about Henry the 8th, and England’s breakaway from the Catholic Church and the Pope to form the Anglican Church.

I really enjoy my Tuesday class, Covering Religion. We talk about different religions and we’re all covering different religions. For me, it’s Orthodox Christianity, which feels like a whole new religion to me. It’s so foreign—the gust of incense, the lavish gold, the icons on the ceilings and the walls. Even the sign of the cross is different. This class talks about Ireland and Irish Troubles, which is a cultural/class conflict dressed up as a religious one (don’t quote me on that, though).
The speaker who came on Zoom was talking about prophetic leadership, and I love that idea. That leaders have foresight to see what a community needs and do what they can to cater to those needs.

I also love our class taking lunch together. We head down to the student center and join two tables together and it’s like a large feast where everyone shares the places they’ve been going to for reporting. On this day, I ordered a matcha for myself.

Everyone should read Andy Squyres. He’s so wise and funny and wonderful. “Don’t I love to make an idol out of my melancholy? It takes humility to enter into the joy of the Lord. But I’m not often humble. I resist the work of the Spirit…His timing is inopportune and his methods are suspect but who am I to argue with his sanctifying work?”
I ended up walking around with Trisha and Meghnad, two of my classmates, to talk about different theories on religion. We disagreed, but it was respectful and cool to hear other people’s thoughts.

I went home and refound this old song–Last Light by Tonight Alive. I love a good Aussie rock band. The emo music still hits for me, even though I’m no longer 16.

I needed to get grinding on my Master’s project. I’m doing a story on a church in the Upper West Side during the pandemic. I’ve been getting excited about it again, but my other reporting class has been so time consuming.
9:25pm

Before heading to bed, I picked up my Bible, a habit I’ve unfortunately neglected. And listening to worship music while reading Scripture is such a dream.
I know this one is a short post, but here’s a little glimpse of one of my days. I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Signing off,
Gigi
That excerpt from Andy Squyres – ? Boy, do I know people like that! It’s interesting to read it out in the open like that. How very bold and forward of him. I imagine he’s ministering in powerful ways.
