little glimmers of life

Hello, gentle readers! I hope life is treating you kindly and if it isn’t, I hope you are treating your own soul kindly instead. I want to share with you some of the things I’ve been enjoying lately, little glimmers to remind you life can be sweet sometimes.

After work, I have this routine where I take a shower, change into cozy pajamas and settle in to watch Jeopardy. I watch it with my family and we keep track of who gets what question right. It’s fun and it’s wild to see what random piece of trivia you remember. Very nerd-core, but I like it!

Ritz cheese bites are my new addiction. They’re an expensive snack but I am a major cheese fan, so it’s perfect for me. I only allow myself a few at a time or I will eat the whole bag.

I go through seasons where I don’t do this and it usually results in me sleeping late or sleeping badly. Reading before bed is such a nice way to settle down, engross yourself in a book, and get lost in fiction before you nod off for the evening. If you have time, I like to spend some time on my Sabbath with an open window, light classical music playing (love ophelia wilde’s playlists), and an open book for a restful time.

It’s actually funny how long it took me to realize I do actually like history, considering my obsession with period dramas. While I do gravitate towards the drama, I also enjoy learning about how people lived before modern times and the customs of the day. I’ve just finished watching Miss Austen. I thought it would be overdramatic or too unfaithful, but it’s a tender meditation on grief, love, and sisterhood. I shed tears watching it! I also thoroughly enjoyed House of David–it’s Biblical with some creative licenses but it brings to life 1 & 2 Samuel in a way I’ve only ever dreamed of seeing on screen!

Instead of my weekly Sunday summary, which I used to do in college and grad school, I’ve started monthly recaps for my Instagram. I just find that these days, my life looks so similar week to week that there isn’t much to share. I still have things I’m learning but most days are very ordinary with cleaning and cooking and going to work. Sharing at the end of the month allows me to share the most exciting days along with the regular ones too.

I bit the bullet and got a BritBox subscription. I find that they have a good selection of wholesome shows that are perfectly cozy. I love Father Brown, Cranford, and Sister Boniface. I might pause my BritBox subscription soon, just to read more instead of watch. But I dearly love to knit and watch Father Brown for a charming mystery.

I’ve been enjoying playing the New York Times Spelling Bee game. I often find that I’ll leave and return to it with fresh ideas, which makes it fun to play throughout a whole day. It’s both fun and challenging, and to get the pangram, the word that uses all the letters, is such an exhilarating feeling.

What are some little glimmers in your life lately?

Signing off,

Gigi
