Saturday in New York City πŸš•

Every good day in New York City depends upon your ability to remain open-minded, and therefore, to stumble upon the sweet treasures the day has to offer.

My friend Zee came up for the weekend. Friday night consisted of Shake Shack and talking with the family. Late night as a preamble to the adventures!

I wake early to spend time in the quiet. It’s always good to give yourself time in the morning – not immediately heading out the door but time to be still and rest πŸ™‚

yes, that is a broken Tab key

Around 10ish, we head towards Downtown Brooklyn for breakfast. As soon as head out of the train station, we stumble upon a farmer’s market. We eye flowers and baked goods, wishing we had more room to carry the goods, but move on empty-handed.

Near the Brooklyn Promenade (which you should totally see if you’re ever in New York City), we find a tiny but artsy diner, Montague Diner. We debate what we should order, both deciding to be risky – she gets the green juice with a traditional breakfast and I dive into the balaclava french toast with orange cream and a side of eggs. As I drink my lemon mint spritz, I find that the french toast might be a tad too sweet for me. Yummy but they could scale back on the sugar. I will definitely return here, I think.

We exchange stories about work and what friends we love are up to, pondering what our next move will be. On the calendar, we have scheduled a trip to the Transit Museum, which I had never been to before, but she has.

We begin the long but rewarding walk east towards Fort Greene Park. We stumble upon what I later find to be the Oratory Church of St. Boniface. We grab water from a local deli, the day much warmer than we planned for, and circle a side street, admiring stoops and doors.Β

Walking to the Park, we find ourselves amidst the Fort Greene Greenmarket – tempted to buy wares from vendors. I pick up a lovely room spray, a fun indulgence. Zee manages to bypass hurting her wallet, citing being a responsible adult.

We finally enter the park, take pictures and admire dogs. It’s truly the simple things, folks. I tell myself, I shall return, if only for a taste of some apple cider.

We take a bus back to Downtown Brooklyn, with Zee in navigation mode, to the Transit Museum. While the actual construction of the transit system is quite harrowing, meandering around old train cars and looking at old city maps is fun. I take a million photos, and mourn the death of the Metro Card all over again. The old advertisements are beautiful and the maps exquisite. I walk away from the museum with an early birthday gift (thanks, Zee!) and we proceed back home as our wandering is complete.

We navigate back to Penn Station, using the A train this time (a new route for me). I finally find the connection between the old Penn Station and the new one, and while I was tempted to acquire ice cream, I resisted the urge in the name of being a responsible adult.

At home, I begin the puzzling gift and I must say, 500 pieces is not as easy as I thought it’d be.

Hope you enjoyed this day! Let me know what your fun summer plans have consisted of.

Signing off,

Gigi
