I love sharing a little slice of life here on the interwebs.
Summer seems like it’s shifting away and this fall will be buiser than ever. I’m doing my best to soak up the free time I have. Highly encourage you to spend your days in the sunshine, in laughter, taking deep breaths and slowing down.

Morning Routine

Lately, I’ve been struggling with sleep. So rather than get up at 6am like I’ve done for the past several weeks since I went full time at my job, I let myself sleep in until 6:45ish. I always turn on my kettle to boil some water for me first thing. It’s a crucial step for me. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and return to steep a cuppa. This morning, I brewed the fruity Covent Garden Tea by Whittard (a fantastic indulgence). I add in some brown sugar and half and half – it’s perfect!

Lately, I’ve been reading Josha and 1 Kings in tandem. I like to read two distinct books together and see if there are any parallels. I spend an hour here. On days I work in the office, I spend less time in scripture, having to commute.
This day’s breakfast consisted of hard boiled eggs. (If you have the secret to soft boiled eggs that don’t fall apart in your hands, please let me know. I am an eager beaver!)
Some mornings I read. I’ve been reading N.T. Wright’s Paul, which is rich and phenomenal but needs a certain level of attention to appreciate. This day, I opt for a walk on my walking pad, 20 minutes, literally right before I hop on for the day. Some days I start earlier. Most days I get on right on time when I’m at home because usually there’s something last minute and then I stay on longer than 7 hours.

For lunch, I pull together a bowl – white rice, tomatoes, cucumber, pickled onions, chicken, and tzatziki sauce.

Night Routine
This evening I spent way too long trying to find a new show to watch.
I picked the Vicar of Digby for something quick. Not exactly my type of humor – is it British humor? Some jokes are very obvious to not be funny and others are so referential to British culture that I’m lost.

I ate my Cobb salad from Chick-fil-A, an absolute once-in-a-while treat. Very yummy!!!! The key with the Cobb salad is to do both the Avocado Lime Ranch and Creamy Salsa dressings.
I also watched Return to Paradise, which took me a second to like. Mel is a bit prickly, but very intelligent, and the show is definitely in the vein of the original Death in Paradise. It’s very small-town-with-a-high-murder-rate, which I do vibe with. (I seriously wish Hope Street would continue forever!)
My skincare is simple – the Byoma skin mist (J’adore!), snail mucin, and the Dr. Althea 345 relief cream.
I’ve shifted my night routine to be later for two reasons: my fall season is jam-packed and I want to keep time for myself & my sleep window is actually later around 11pm. Highly recommend looking into your sleep window if you have been struggling with sleep, as I have been.

I ended up in bed around 10 with a book (Amazon fire) and my journal. I read Magistrate by Jayden Jelso (I’ve since finished – fantastic sequel with twists and turns!). I ended off my night with a quick journal and headed to bed around 10:45pm.
Very simple routine. Got to keep it simple so it sticks.
Friends, I hope you have some margin to get some rest and do the things that keep you human, instead of a machine focused on productivity.
Signing off,
Gigi
Yummy, I love your cuppa tea!
Being retired, I don’t have a fixed routine. I jump on the treadmill first thing. That, with my other workout routine, keeps me busy for 45 minutes.
I don’t set an alarm, so I wake at varying times. If I wake at 4:30 or 5 (often), I do my 1-hr devotions first, then my workout. Otherwise I wake 6ish and go to the treadmill, then morning hot drink (bone broth) and devotions.
Stuff I do during the week includes Pilates class, volunteering at assisted living & memory care, and outings with my hubby.
Work hard – you’re gonna love retirement! 😊
